We went to the Orchards in October.

This site is clean and beautifully kept. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The shower blocks are centrally heated (very important as we were there in October half-term holiday) and cleaned by an army of friendly ladies. There are a few wet rooms, centrally heated with shower, basin and toilet – lovely!

Everything has been considered at this site; there is a battery charging and freezer pack service, chemical disposal points, hairdryers in the shower blocks, a family room, a room for rallies and a launderette.

Pitches are terraced or gently sloping and many are on hard standing - useful when we went, as it was a bit wet! In July and August a pitch (with 2 adults) and electrical hook-up is £20 per night, in our opinion, very good value considering the great facilities on site. However, Red Funnel do a special low season offer comprising ferry crossing for a vehicle and 4 people from Southampton plus 5 nights' pitch fee (with hook-up) at this site for £110 (booked on-line).

The Orchards also do package deals of their own, including a Christmas holiday in their static caravans, which, they told us, had been completely booked up for months.

We plan to go back in the warmer months, especially as we didn't get to try out the swimming pools due to one of us being struck down with a heavy cold!

Things to do and see:

Well, I don't think there's enough space here to do the Isle of Wight's attractions full justice. Our favorites are the Ventnor Botanic Garden, the cream teas at the little village of Brighstone, eating fish and chips on the little pier at Freshwater Bay whilst watching the sun go down… and much, much more.
