We went to Scott's Farm in May.

This campsite is on the edge of East Wittering, although its postal address is, confusingly, West Wittering. This trip was a test weekend for our first run out in our “new” VW camper (circa 1987). We were not too far from home – so if anything went wrong, we could just be towed home by the breakdown service!

Scott's farm is a 30 acre, grassy, level campsite. The staff are friendly and the shower blocks are clean and modern. There is a laundry room and sinks for washing up. The site is located on the coast and a short, 10 minute stroll brings you to the shops, restaurants, pubs and the seafront with its clean, sandy beach. The beach at West Wittering is only a short drive in the opposite direction.

Things to see and do:

This is a good base for touring the area and visiting Chichester, Bosham and the Roman Palace at Fishbourne.

and the negatives...

The site is very bare and has no hedges and not many trees – only those around the edges of the huge fields, so it can be very windy – and it's not very attractive. Dogs are welcome and there is a dog exercising field but, looking around the site, it was obvious to us that some dogs didn't make it that far!

Scott's Farm would benefit from a small mini market style shop as, apart from camping sundries, you have to go off site for everything. The only place for rubbish disposal was a huge skip type bin up to which you had to hurl your bag of rubbish. It was not that warm during our stay, but in high summer smells and flies may be a problem.

The site can get very crowded (this was May half-term holiday) and a tad rough. During our stay a pair of very expensive trainers was stolen from outside someone's awning, but credit goes to the staff who drove around looking for them! However, we were lucky enough to pitch next to a lovely family with three well-behaved children – plus, they lent us their can opener!

In July and August 2007 a pitch for any type of unit with an awning and electrical hook-up will cost £23 per night and a staggering £28 if you have a gazebo and an extra car! It is also very busy in season and, if you like peace and quiet, this is not the place for you.
